Hello!
My name is Swan and basically my mission is to review software of all kinds – including games – there’ll also be the intermittent review on blogs and various websites that impress me – or make me feel .. err unwell – or just plain tickle my fancy.
I’d like to say a few words about why I’ve also decided to review PC games.
I’m the proud and happy parent of two grown boys, who grew up playing PC games when Castle Wolfenstein was all the rage. (Hey! I can’t be the only person on Earth to remember it!) As my boys grew up, so did the gaming industry and my own enjoyment of PC games.
These days, I’ve developed a passion and true appreciation for quality games and their developers. Not just for the astonishing games that one can buy today that are 3D graphics based, but all kinds of games, right down to the free on-line flash games one can find all over the web.
I believe that each game genre serves its purpose at a certain time to the user, according to one’s mood, preferences and gaming skills. Eg: I consider myself to be a fairly competent wordsmith. I’ve loved the English language since primary school where I began learning about word roots, origins and word structure. I still remember the revelation of understanding wash over me, that would ensure a good command of the English language in years to come.
Often, my brain won’t surrender to my body’s intention to wind down at the end of the day. It’s still too active processing other events that happened. During these times, a puzzle game and more often a word game is what I’ll reach for first.
Preferably one that can be played at your own pace, such as Word Slinger (I play this almost every night,) and I usually play the option that isn’t timed. The other option uses easier words but the level has to be finished within a certain time.
Though I own (and thoroughly enjoy,) complex 3D technology games, I try to avoid them late in the evening. They usually have my heart close to flat lining – with nurses rushing in from everywhere screaming “Code 4! Code4!” (Only they can’t hear each other over the music!)
Ok, so there’s a little exaggeration there – but I do prefer more moderate games before bedtime.
If I feel like playing a quick game with coffee during the day, I’ll usually opt for a game that can be finished in under 15 minutes, or at least have the level saved, such as Age of Japan – a ‘match 3’ game, or one of the 5,000 Solitaire clones that are on the web today.
David (my husband,) is a software programmer and I do a little web design. Obviously, we use all kinds of software – especially for graphics and HTML. Look out for those reviews. System software and utilities will also be on the list and a LOT more is planned.
At times you will see that I provide a ‘Sponsored Review.’ This means that I have been commissioned to honestly and critically review a piece of software for the developer. There will be times that I have positive comments to make and other times when I’ll need to highlight the shortcomings of its use.
One thing you won’t find me doing is pulling any (respectful!) punches if there is something wrong, fishy, badly programmed or damages a computer in any way.
All sponsored reviews will be marked as such at the end.
Have a great day everyone!
